Elton John has revealed that he found it difficult to watch his new musical because he lost his sight after suffering from an eye infection.
The singer-songwriter attended the London premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical on Sunday.
“I wasn’t able to attend many of the premieres because, you know, I lost my sight,” he told the audience.
John added that even though he couldn’t watch the show, he enjoyed the music, which sounded good.
In September, the singer revealed that he was suffering from a severe eye infection that he contracted in July. In November, he told US television channel ABC that he suffers from partial blindness in his right eye and that the condition of his left eye is “no better.” John added that health problems prevent him from working on new musical projects.
Elton John wrote the music for The Devil Wears Prada, a musical based on the 2006 film. The film is about a young journalist who must deal with the glamor and vanity of a glossy fashion magazine. The production stars Vanessa Williams as creepy editor Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep in the film.
The event, which raises money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, was attended by celebrities and fashion industry figures including designer Donatella Versace and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who is said to have inspired Priestley’s character.
