Protests in Georgia
For the fifth night in a row of protests and arrests in Georgia after the ruling “Georgian Dream” party decided to freeze negotiations to join the European Union, BNT reported.
Thousands of people once again took to the streets of Tbilisi and other major cities to declare their desire for the country to continue on the path towards European membership.
The demonstrators used hand grenades against the police. The security services fired rubber bullets at the demonstrators, and used water cannons and tear gas against them.
More than 220 protesters have been arrested, and there have been dozens of cases of police violence, including against journalists.
President Salome Zurabishvili stated that the only way out of the crisis was to hold new parliamentary elections.
