Украйна настоява за покана в НАТО 30 години след провалено ядрено споразумение – haroonabadvital.com
Ukraine criticized the agreement concluded 30 years ago, according to which it gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees, which, however, were not fulfilled, writes “Reuters”. Today, Kyiv is fighting and applying diplomatic pressure to get an invitation to join NATO.
Today the Budapest Memorandum is a monument to the short-sightedness of the moment of strategic decision-making.
This came in a statement by the Ministry on the occasion of the anniversary of December 5, 1994. Signing the memorandum.
It also states that the agreement “should serve as a reminder to current Euro-Atlantic leaders that building European security at the expense of Ukraine’s interests and without taking them into account will be doomed to failure.”
Despite three years of exhausting war, Kiev rejects the prospect of returning to such talks, which would lead to a temporary ceasefire but leave open the possibility of another Russian incursion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “Enough of the Budapest memorandum. Enough of the Minsk agreements. Enough twice. We cannot fall into this trap a third time. We simply have no right to do so.” |
Kiev wants NATO members to extend an invitation to a meeting of NATO foreign ministers that begins Tuesday, as the third anniversary of the invasion falls and Russia makes new gains on the front.
The State Department statement called on the United States and Britain, which also signed the 1994 memorandum, as well as France and China, which also joined it, to support the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine.

Russia completely opposes the idea of Ukraine joining NATO, considering it to constitute an unacceptable security threat.
