Thousands of Greek residents are affected by the bad weather and feel hopeless. The islands of Rhodes and Lemnos are in a state of emergency. In many areas of the country, people remain without electricity for more than 24 hours.

The death toll rose to three, and a 58-year-old man died in Toroni, Halkidiki, after his car fell into a ravine while trying to avoid the rapids. He was trapped for at least eight hours, suffered from hypothermia, and died on his way to the hospital.

Citizens, businessmen and farmers spent exciting hours, spending night after night in the cars and homes of their relatives.

With the first rays of the sun, massive devastation can be seen, concentrated in Lemnos and Rhodes, with serious problems also observed in Thessaly, Halkidiki, Pieria and Thessaloniki.

Residents of two islands saw their homes and shops flooded, leaving their belongings underwater. Houses are full of dirt, cars are “buried,” and roads are littered with destroyed possessions: electrical appliances, furniture, and mattresses. People are demanding immediate evacuation of roads filled with mud, tree trunks, debris and huge objects.

Thessaloniki also suffered seriously. Uprooted trees, submerged cars, flooded rivers, roads closed due to water accumulation, broken windows – this is the picture in many areas of the city. In Heptabergion in Thessaloniki and Poligyro in Halkidiki, wind speeds reached 95 km/h.

Falling trees and power line supports caused a power outage that has not yet been restored, leaving many areas without power for a second day and leaving citizens without heat. Electrical workers are trying to repair the damage in various places in Central Macedonia.

Crews are working in winds of 10 to 11 Beaufort to restore power in Sithonia, where homes and businesses were also flooded. Sithonia was divided into two halves due to the collapse of the bridge in Koroni.

As of 6 a.m. Monday, the Corps Operations Center had received a total of 3,024 calls, according to the fire department.

Meanwhile, the Tempe Tunnel remains flooded, disrupting traffic from Larissa to Thessaloniki. As a result, passengers faced long delays yesterday. Hellenic Train announced that due to a technical problem, services on the Aegio-Kiato-Aegio section will be operated by buses until further notice. Due to bad weather, schools were closed in many areas of Greece.

Cyclone Bora is expected to weaken as of today, but a new cyclone is expected to hit the country. Hurricane Bora has not yet been able to leave Greece, and a new hurricane is expected to arrive in the coming hours, affecting many parts of the country. Rain and storms will continue until the end of this week.
