A strong lineup of Oscar contenders arrives with movie premieres this December. In theaters and streaming platforms in the coming days, we expect several titles that will likely make it to Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominations.

“Anora”

The film, winner of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, follows the wild odyssey of sexy dancer Anora (Mikey Madison), who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch – Vanya. When news of the wedding reaches Vanya’s parents, they immediately board a plane from Russia to the United States and begin to pressure the dancer to divorce their son.

“Juror No. 2”

The Clint Eastwood-directed courtroom drama focuses on Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult). He is one of the jurors in a murder case, and during the trial he receives a shocking insight – that he is the culprit of the crime in question. This realization leaves Justin with a moral dilemma – whether to confess or let someone else take the blame.

“The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim”

With the anime version, we return to Tolkien’s world 183 years before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. A surprise attack forces the legendary King of Rohan, Helmit Heavyhand, and his men to the ancient lands of Rogauskal. In a desperate situation, Selim’s daughter Hera must gain strength and lead the resistance against the enemy who is trying to destroy their people.

“Kraven the Hunter”

Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is a Russian immigrant with an unwavering ambition to prove himself as the best hunter in the world. When he embarks on a dangerous mission to prove his worth, he faces a series of challenges that push him to the limits of his physical abilities.

“Mufasa: The Lion King”

The visually stunning introduction to The Lion King introduces us to Simba’s father, Mufasa. We see him as an orphaned lion cub who falls under the care of Taka, the blood heir to the royal lion lineage. Mufasa embarks on an adventure that leads him to a surprising group of people who don’t like food and pits him against a formidable enemy.

Better Man: Robbie Williams

The play deals with the scandalous true life of British star Robbie Williams, who is played by a chimpanzee in the film. In a highly original way, the cinematography captures the artist’s signature sense of humor as he takes us through his life – from childhood to the success of fight band Take That to the challenges that fame brings.

“Sonic: The Movie 3”

In the third movie about the alien hedgehog, Sonic, Nicholas and Tails team up to fight a new and powerful opponent. The enemy outnumbers them in every way, and under the pressure of his powers, Sonic and his companions decide to turn to their old enemy Dr. Robotnik for help.

Based on a true story, the drama takes us to the height of World War II, when a battalion of women of color arrives in Birmingham to deliver mail to Allied soldiers. However, they are immediately faced with a daunting task – the warehouses are full, and the department’s lieutenant does not allow African-American women to take on more administrative duties.

“Superman: The Christopher Reeve Story”
